Customer Reviews

I have to admit, there isn't very many times when I have to convert PDF files in order to edit them. But I imagine that there are those who would find this very useful. If that's the case, then this may be the software for you. It's easy to install and register, and includes an automatic update module so that you always have the latest version.
PDF Converter allows you to convert multiple files at once to Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Rich Text Format in one click of a button. It's very quick at what it does and the results, on the whole, are pretty good. In order to test it's capabilities, I converted several documents to Word and Powerpoint format. I also tried the Excel format, however this wasn't as impressive as it tended to create a new sheet for every page. Having said that, in my opinion PDF to Word is the most useful option.
The first PDF I converted was the Budget Report, since I knew it was going to be a long document, with over 200 pages. It completed this in just under 5 minutes, and the results were very good. I couldn't see any formatting errors, or any other problems in either Word or Powerpoint format.
I then converted a second document, which contained many graphics, tables and text. It also managed to do this very quickly, however I noticed a few minor formatting errors with the converted document. These included minor alignment problems, the page headers appearing twice on some pages, and the odd line of text appearing off the side of the page.
Overall though, I felt it did a decent job of converting as any errors were only a tiny proportion of the whole document. These could easily be rectified during the editing process and therefore, I would fully recommend this software!

The idea of PDF converter is that it can take a PDF document (which cannot normally be edited) and convert it into an editable form. This version of PDF Converter can convert into Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), and also into Corel Wordperfect. You'll need one of these office programs before you can edit the converted document, of course. Recent versions of Microsoft Office and Corel Wordperfect can save as or export to PDF format, so when you're finished editing, you can make the document back into a PDF if you wish.
I've been using PDF Converter with Office 2007, which is the version that most people are probably using at the moment. The first thing to note is that PDF Converter embeds itself into the Office programs, as well as installing a little PDF Converter Assistance GUI, which can convert multiple documents at once. In Word, it embeds itself into the File = Open dialogue, so you can open a PDF file almost as easily as one of Word's native formats. You can choose to have the document automatically converted into a form, or treated as text. In all three Office applications, there's also a "Nuance PDF" item added to the ring menu.
I found several significant problems while using this software:
1) I converted a railway timetable containing two tables to Excel. One table became editable; the other remained as an embedded graphic. This may have been because they were created differently.
2) I also tried converting a PDF of the New Testament. For no reason I could discern one of the verses became the document footer, and was therefore repeated on all pages of the document.
3) I found that documents using a larger page size (American legal) had a few letters truncated from the right-hand edge of each line.
4) There were one or two PDF files (possibly protected ones?), such as the Garmin eTrex manual, that PDF Converter refused to recognise as PDFs at all.
I see that the other customer reviewers of this product have not encountered the majority of the problems I have seen. Perhaps I was using particularly difficult source material; perhaps the version of Office is significant.
PDF Converter is able to convert very large documents. I tried a 16MB PDF with around 600 pages and lots of graphics; it converted successfully to a Word document which, after repagination, ended up at more than 900 pages long (but only 6MB filesize).
It would be better to keep your documents in an editable form in the first place, or buy a program that can natively edit PDF format files. If you really need to edit a PDF and you don't have a PDF editor, this package is certainly a lot better than having to type it all back in again.
