I've been using the beta for Word 2010 for a few months now and I must say I've really taken a liking to it.
The layout is smart, and has a nice feel to it, everything is organised and are in the right sections making it easy to select which tools you want to use.
I run this software on my PC with specs of; Windows 7, with 2GB RAM ; a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Duel Core Processor 5000+ 2.61GHz, and it runs really smoothly and so far I have encountered not one crash or error yet!
I use this solely for personal use and it does the job I want it too.
If your looking for something just for documents, CV's and letters etc... then this is great, but if you are going to use other Microsoft Office products then I would suggest going for Microsoft Office 2010 as you save A LOT of money that way, but personally I only use Word so this is good enough for me.

I do have office 2007, but I didn't want the other programs with it so uninstalled that. I just updated to Word 2010 which was not exactly rocket science, Microsoft as usual making money, but it was a reasonable price and it's a reasonable product
