Customer Reviews
Over the years I have tried many Anti-virus/Security products including all the big name ones and the freebee`s.
Tried "NOD32" based on friends recommendations and liked it.
Decided to upgrade to this version and it`s the best of the lot.
A real set and forget product that "does what it says on the tin"
I can confidently recommend this product to anyone,so much so that I have the 2 year version.
We had been long time users of Outpost Security Suite Pro but every upgrade seemed to increase the load on the PC resources. After some intensive research we decided that Eset provided decent security and was light on resource usage and one of the five top rated by AV Comparatives. Our somewhat aging PC is single core Athlon, 4GB memory running 32bit windows 7. Installation was a doddle and completed in about 20min, this included uninstalling Outpost, and updating to the latest virus database. There was a further 20min installation later to update the software to the latest version. This too went without a hitch. After installation a complete scan of the PC took 80mins, but subsequent scans are much quicker, around 20mins. You can leave the settings as is where it will quietly remain in the background doing its thing or delve into the setup files and fiddle with the settings. Depends how paranoid you are! The firewall setting has various modes, Automatic is the default mode where it will allow all outbound connections, an interactive mode which will ask you to allow or deny any outbound connections and some other modes which are various mixes of the two mentioned. If you set it to interactive you will get popups asking for permission for every outbound connection, these will gradually get less as it learns - there is also a learning mode which is similar (not sure what the difference is) but will give less popups. What settings you use depends on your degree of paranoia, if you want to know exactly what's going on you can, but if you are happy to trust it completely - and no reason not to- then it will sit there very quietly with just a discreet message now and then. Finally CPU usage averages around 10% to 15%, much, much less than Outpost. The help files could be more detailed, hence 4 stars - though that's maybe being a bit mean
