    Customer Reviews

I bought this software a couple of weeks ago, and this is the first chance I have had to get on the computer and rave about how good this product is - my daughter has been hogging the computer playing this game!
The software is very 'playable' and the children find it very easy to navigate around the various screens. It is very supportive of their exploration, without being seen as patronising or babyish by them.
The educational element is so cunningly disguised in the games and puzzles that the children are unaware how much they are learning. The games and challenges can be set at differing levels according to ability, so the difficulty can be increased as the children become more familiar with the game, and learn new skills. My 7 year old coped well with the level one, and will be moving onto the second level soon, (there are 4 levels in total).
The software is excellent for developing logic, pattern recognition, sequencing, geometry, and a whole host of other mathematical 'must haves' for children, (the puzzles really do test them - they are a lot harder than they sound and really encourage lateral thinking).
In addition to the enjoyment they have, and the learning support it provides, after introducing the software and navigation, and playing the first few games, I have been able to get the ironing mountain conquered as they are so wrapped up in the game - BUY IT NOW

I bought this for my son who'd out grown the Jump Ahead series of games (which are SO good we have the whole set from nursary upwards). We've had the Zoombinis game too and reader rabbit thinking, so being made by the same makers we thought this would be a good move up from Jump ahead year 2.
My initial reponse was very positive, the graphics are much better than the Jump ahead games, and the 'story' is a bit more sophisticated. The maths games seem to be quite good (if a little easy).
So we upped the difficulty level and let my son get on with it.
The game is very good, and my son certainly enjoyed it hence the 3stars however but i didn't think it was quite as good as the jump ahead or zoombinis games for a number of reasons:
the game can be completed far too quickly - it's relatively easy to collect the different types of tokens to move onto the next phase of the journey(sometimes only having to do 1 very simple addition sum, or jigsaw) whereas the Jump Ahead games required repeated practice depending on the age of the child
there doesn't seem to be any automatic level change (from easy to hard) or a test so that parents can judge what level to put them on. My son is actually only just started year 2 so we started him on level 1 thinking the computer would up the level if he did well - frankly it was laughably easy and my son finished the whole game probably in about 2 hours.
It's a real shame, because everything about the game shouts quality, and the activities themesleves are really well thought out (particularly the maths) i would just have liked to see him having to practice the skills a bit more before being allowed to progress to the next set of skills. You certainly have to with the other GSP games like Zoombinis and Reader Rabbit.
Perhaps once the novelty has worn off and he's had a go at the year 4 ; 5 games (we bought the box set),he'll come back and do it again on a harder level and i'll revise my review. But for now i'm a little disapointed.
